Sushi assessing her new home.

Today began our family’s foster-to-adopt journey. We had our foster interaction this morning with Keimi (the foster parent), Stephanie (the adoption counselor) and or course, Sushi. What I was most impressed with this whole process is that the NYC Animal Care Center truly took the time to scan our application and make sure that, at least on paper - the dog’s attributes and behaviors fit us and our experience with having dogs (it’s been a long time since i’ve had a pet).

Sushi felt sad and anxiety as she watched her foster parents walk away - but with persistence (and treats!), she quickly re-focused and we loaded up and drove home.

Truly curious about everything, Sushi inspected every niche in the house (she even followed me into the bathroom) making sure her home was acceptable.

The beginning of our foster-to-adopt journey.

Arvin walking Sushi outside of the animal care center.

Trust is given as Sushi offers a paw.

Sushi senses the other lady of the house and bonds.

Too much excitement for one day.

To be continued…
